Why did you want to develop your playground?

With the summer holidays on their way we wanted to create an outdoor space and classroom that would allow our pupils to make the most of the sunshine. By developing our playground we could increase the amount of creative and active play our children take part in whilst ensuring they get their daily dosage of fresh air.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

Playforce knew exactly how to deal with the space that we had available. The team was able to draw up a number of designs that would complement our outdoor space and create a fun and inspiring space for our pupils to explore. We were kept informed at all stages of the project and the team on site was really friendly. The children loved watching the playground take shape, they couldn’t wait to get outside and onto the equipment.

How are you using the space to deliver outdoor learning and educational play?

Finding ways to deliver outdoor learning and educational play in the new space came naturally to our staff and pupils. They were inspired by the surroundings and got involved straight away. The Active Trail is very popular at playtimes, the children love using the Stop Clock to challenge themselves and each other. When the bell rings it’s fantastic to have the option to take lessons outdoors. The shelter gives us the opportunity to incorporate outdoor learning into the curriculum even if the sunshine is hiding.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

We are so pleased to see the children motivated and inspired by the new playground. They love going outside and finding different ways to play on the equipment. Having the option to take lessons outdoors has helped us bridge the gap between the classroom and the playground. We can take part in more free flow play and add variety to the daily routine.

Can you share any practice insights you have gained?

Creating a sheltered space outdoors that can be used for play and learning is an easy, multi-purpose way to make the school day more diverse. We’ve been able to use our outdoor classroom for a great variety of lessons and the children are inspired and motivated by the change.
