Why did you want to develop your playground?

At Keinton Mandeville Primary School we feel that it is very important to encourage our pupils to get outside and to think creatively. We wanted to develop a playground that would allow them to release their imaginations and therefore create an outdoor space that could be used for both learning and play.

What were the key elements that made Playforce stand out from other providers?

The team at Playforce were very considerate of our budget and were willing to go out of their way to try a number of different plans. Once they had found a design that matched out requirements and money that we had available, they were quick to start the project and get the ball rolling.

Since installing our new playground equipment, the children have become much more imaginative both in and out of the classroom.

How are we using the space to deliver outdoor learning & educational play?

Within our new outdoor learning environment we have installed a stage and seating that can be used all year round. This space has been particularly popular with pupils and has been used for drama productions, to show science experiments and as an extension of the classroom.

What are the biggest benefits you have seen for the children?

Since installing our new playground equipment, the children have become much more imaginative both in and out of the classroom. Learning and playing in an outdoor space has given them the inspiration and motivation to get creative and active. Our pupils are interested in the environment around them and are beginning to understand what they can do to look after it.

Can you share any best practice insights you’ve gained?

It’s still possible to transform your playground even if you’re on a tight budget. Work closely with the designers and planners and try every combination until you find one that suits you and your school.
