Grow Your Own Potatoes (GYOP) is a fantastic outdoor education initiative that teaches Early Years children about, you guessed it, potatoes! Children learn the nutrition of potatoes, how they can be eaten as part of a well-balanced diet and how to actually grow their own.

All schools get a FREE potato growing kit from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board which includes colouring sheets, competition forms, learning resources and much more. Register to get your kit here.

We have an incredible range of outdoor play facilities in our Garden and Grow section that will help you with your GYOP project. Here’s our pick of the crop…

Gardening Kit

Little ones will love our useful gardening kit - perfect for prepping the soil. The kit includes a watering can, hand fork, hand trowel, cotton gloves and a tool bag with pockets. It’s suitable for Early Years all the way up to children in year 5!

Rustic Planter

Potatoes need a proper soil bed to grow to their maximum potential. This rectangular planter bed is perfect for potatoes. It’s easy for little ones to get their hands dirty and start planting those delicious vegetables.

Wheelbarrow and Tool Set

Guess what? This vivid wheelbarrow set is ideal for Early Years and includes a spade, lawn rake, hand trowel, hand fork, cotton gloves and a fabric carry bag to keep all the tools safe.

Wheelbarrow and Garden Kit

Outdoor play and GYOP go hand in hand with this set. Included in this kit is a wheelbarrow, watering can, hand fork, hand trowel and a pair of cotton gloves for tiny hands.

We hope you grow a nice big healthy crop of potatoes this year - let us know how your school gets on using our Facebook or Twitter pages!
