This week we’re celebrating (18th - 22nd November) World Nursery Rhyme Week. Perfect for those under the age of seven, it promotes the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood development and education. Parents and Early Years practitioners can register to join in and the website has a whole host of resources, provided free of charge to registrants.

The best bit about nursery rhymes is that they aren’t just for singing, sitting in a circle indoors… here is a selection of our favourite outdoor play equipment and activity ideas, perfect for putting a bit of imagination, role play, music and fun into nursery rhymes - for even the littlest children!

Itsy Bitsy Spider - While our Spider Nest might be a bit big for EYFS, our Grab & Grasp Web addition to our popular EYFS Scrambler Set is ideal for small hands and feet, as well as those just learning to walk. Or why not use one of our Den Trees to imagine making a web? And for those that enjoy a bit of water play (and imagining climbing up their own water spout) we have our Freestyle Channelling Set to provide lots of fun and exploration!

Mary Had a Little Lamb - There’s lots of fun to be had with sheep! For little children there’s our Sheep Springer but - ok, we know this isn’t a sheep - larger children might enjoy our Weaving & Drawing board that’s shaped like a pig!

London Bridge is Falling Down - What more could you need than our specially designed EYFS Imagination Bridge, just perfect for little feet! Or how about a bit more to explore with our Sensory Nursery Tower - that includes not only a tunnel but a tower to climb?

Hickory Dickory Dock - This is a great nursery rhyme for getting children active. Why not get them to run ‘up and down the clock’ and use our Solar Powered Stop Clock to time themselves? Or our Chalk & Weaving board to get them learning about time and when the ‘clock is going to chime’?

Alphabet Song - Our Natural Drawing Board - Chalk and Clear are a great way to get children learning about the alphabet outside. But we think you can do more… our Poddely Mark Making set is ideal for getting them thinking about letter shapes and identification.

The Wheels on the Bus - There are lots of ways to imagine being on a bus, outdoors… whether you’re using one of our Utility Vehicles, Circle Time Seats or even our Wobble Log, specially designed for EYFS to ‘feel’ the wheels going ‘round and round’. And don’t forget our Buddy Bus Stop Double Bench, which is a great place to start the journey and to discourage anti-social behaviour.

1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive - And finally… we love our Creativity Table with Number Infill, that’s great for encouraging little children to find the right numbers for the rhyme, under the sand.
