Spring ideas for your school

23 March 2022

Spring has finally sprung. Spring officially began on Sunday 20th March and will end on Tuesday 21st June. However, how you define the first day of spring depends on whether you are referring to the astronomical or meteorological spring.

First Week of Spring - Ideas for your school

Take it outside! The spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere is the same day each year: the 20th of March. Use this time - as a day to begin an exciting topic related to spring.
Here are some ideas to help

• Inspire children to explore a green space near your school or home. Organise your wilderness walk and support your budding ecologists as they hone their observational and recording skills - important across the curriculum. Use easy-to-print checklists, like this one from Twinkl.

• This spring could be the season your children start to become multiplication masters. This set of spring-themed mosaics worksheets from Twinkl will help them practice their timetables while making a beautiful art piece.

• It's simple to print and hand out these Spring English Booklets for children in Year 1. Create cohesion across the subjects (whether that's English, Maths, or Geography) by linking them together with the theme of spring. This booklet contains word searches, reading comprehension tasks and phonics activities to help children improve their literacy skills and confidence in writing.

Many of the activities you will find here are based on the bulbs, blossoms and young animals that make their appearance at this time of year. With everything from educational games, to crafts and spring colouring pages, we hope you will find something that inspires you!

Why is it important for children to learn about the seasons?

Learning about the different seasons is essential for children to become more familiar and aware of the world around them. It's also a great opportunity for them to begin to learn about the passage of time and how seasons can affect that.

Learning all about seasons can help children to gain a perception of how time passes and shows them all about change, through seasonal changes.
Lots of seasonal changes are obvious, like the weather. When we take a look outside, it might be snowing, or it might be sunny!

There are lots of less obvious differences, too, when it comes to the seasons. For example, there might be different types of food about or different types of animals that come out to greet us.

Is your outside space ready for Spring? Or for all the seasons for that matter, as we believe getting outside in all weathers throughout the year is important! If you need help on where to start with a new outdoor development, please call the team today on 01604 261690 or contact us here.
